Framework?!

Posted by Josh Hubi on Jan 10, 2011

We have came to the point where we are about 70% done with the finalized design of FileJolt and we feel ready to start building the basic site functions. The problem is, how and what do we use to do this?

There are a great amount of frameworks and content management systems out there that it’s becoming very hard to make a executive decision and pick which one we are moving forward with. I’ve seen a few websites built on drupal and even wordpress (which our corporate website is powered by) but is that honestly the right way to go? I feel as if making a application from the ground up will allow us better control, or am I looking at this completely wrong? I’ve started looking into Zend Framework and I’ve taken to like it a lot. I just recently finished up a a container containing the basic core functions such as uploading to the CDN, grabbing a file from the CDN, assigning it to a user id, tagging the file with meta data, and deleting it. We could also move forward with the Smarty PHP Template Engine and start crafting our website alongside with Zend.

Time to make a executive decision. Let’s see where we end up in the next update.
